These are linked to our five school Christian values:
In Foundation Stage (Reception classes) we introduce the Golden Rules gradually during the autumn term. As in Key Stage 1, we have Golden Time on Friday afternoons when the whole class have a special activity together. All of the children take part in this. We recognise that our children are still learning to follow rules, so we use a class ladder system for rewarding good behaviour and to give them ‘thinking’ time to help them reflect if they have difficulty following the rules. We also give stars on Class Dojo weekly to reward children for following the Golden Rules. They do not lose their star for minor things and class teachers will communicate any issues that have arisen.
In Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) children who follow the Golden Rules are rewarded with half an hour of Golden Time on Friday afternoons. Children can choose Golden Time activities such as parachute games, large play equipment, dressing up, construction toys, library, puppets and many more. Children who do not keep the rules may lose Golden Time in five minute slots. They do not lose Golden Time for minor things, only when they seriously break the Golden Rules. Children also receive Class Dojo points on Fridays for following the Golden Rules. Therefore, you will know how your child has behaved all week.
Behaviour in the school is excellent because of this very clear, consistent approach. When children do lose Golden Time, we always start afresh the following week, so they can move on from earlier mistakes. This approach works best when staff and parents support each other consistently.
Gold Book Assemblies Children who have done something noteworthy, special or kind during the week can receive a Gold Book Certificate at our Gold Book Assembly on Friday mornings. They then take their certificate to share at home. Children here have lots to be proud of and we try our best to acknowledge this as much as possible. Class teachers give stickers and stamps. The headteacher has special stickers and often has visits to her office by children who have done excellent work. Any member of staff can nominate a child for special consideration. 4+ children will join Gold Book Assembly after Christmas to ensure equality for all.
All of this is planned to ensure Burbage C of E Infant School is a great place to be for children and adults. School should be a special experience with many happy memories and we are working towards this for every child.
