Reading at Home

We aim to promote a love of reading in all of our pupils through our teaching, our resources and various events, both national and some which are specific to Burbage Infants.

We often have reading events in school such as 'Read for Fun' in the spring term.  We have a whole new set of phonics books for the children to enjoy and to develop their reading skills.  We celebrate World Book Day every March and Year 1 children have an evening of 'Bedtime Stories' in school in their pyjamas with hot chocolate!  Leicestershire Libraries visit us in the summer term to kickstart their Summer Reading Challenge.  St Catherine's Church volunteers frequently come to read to the children, both in class groups and as a whole school during Collective Worship.

There are some amazing books out there to inspire them and develop their love of reading which is so important at this early stage.  Here are a few links to good websites that give lists of quality texts for children at this age (and ideas for older children too), so hopefully you will find some books to inspire your child.  Please do encourage your child to read; it will make a big difference and it’s a lovely opportunity to snuggle up with a good book together!
